Position Profile

Reporting to the Grande Prairie Operations Manager, the Electrical Engineer/Technologist will be involved in electrical power system and industrial controls design.  Preference is for candidates with experience in all aspects of low voltage electrical design with recent oil & gas or pulp & paper background.

Position Accountabilities

  • Design of electrical power and control systems in oil & gas, pulp & paper, chemical, or mining/milling facilities. Plant systems include Low to Medium voltage power system, cable and raceway design, motor control and switchgear equipment, transformers and protection/control, as well as plant lighting and grounding.
  • Design drawings for construction of the physical components of electrical and automation systems including, but not limited to the following:
  • Single Line Diagrams
  • Motor Control Schematics
  • Experience using electrical power system analysis software (ETAP version 12.6.0 or higher)
  • Control panel layout & design
  • Electrical power distribution systems design
  • Lighting design
  • Cable tray and raceway design
  • I/O wiring
  • Loop drawings
  • Motor Control Center specification
  • Devicenet system design
  • UPS sizing, specification, and design
  • DCS/PLC/RTU/SIS hardware and software design
  • Prepare technical reports and client correspondences/presentations
  • Review and prepare detailed specifications and contract documents for procurement of major electrical and controls equipment as well as construction document packages
  • Assist in the preparation of the technical portions of Procurement documents (RFQs, POs), and review equipment tenders and vendor documents
  • Assist in the coordination of project activities
  • Visits to project sites and other design offices for project related activities, including commissioning and startup support

Candidate Profile

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • P.Eng. or eligibility for registration with APEGA is preferred
  • Previous experience (5-10 years) and working background in industrial facilities
  • Experience with developing construction work packages
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the CEC
  • Solid understanding of the industrial automation business
  • Canadian Citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident
